Printing Posters at Uni Karlsruhe
- High Quality Output
- The HP DesignJet 2500, and the Epson 9000, both offer good quality output.
The HP printer can choke on complicated data. The Epson may be the safest
choice.
- File Format
- Use encapsulated PostScript, compressed with gzip. The Macromedia
FreeHand application can work directly with eps files. It is possible
to convert PostScript to eps, but may cause bounding box errors. If such
is the case, ensure that the eps file doesn't have DOS style line-feeds
(at least where the bounding box is defined). OmniGraffle has worked well
for me, especially using its layers to manage the complexity of a poster. But
it generates an eps file with a HiResBoundingBox defined prior to the
normal BoundingBox; you will need to move the BoundingBox line before
the HiResBoundingBox to be compatible with the Uni's print software. If your
file has errors, error messages will probably be delivered as email to your
rz account.
- Print Queue
- To queue the print job, use the
pm command on the
Rechenzentrum Linux machines.
